Part-Time Faculty, Dental Assisting

Job Description

Position Summary

The Health Sciences Department at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria is seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for possible vacancies. 

Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

 

  1. Instruction of students in dental operating procedures to include four-handed dentistry, chair-side procedures, intra-oral Functions, manipulation of dental materials and business office procedures
  2. Knowledge of DBC dental assisting educational standards 
  3. Online teaching certified (can obtain within 30 days of hire)  
  4. Working knowledge of multi-media materials, computer-assisted instruction-Canvas, and online testing software
  5. Provide class instruction in accordance with established course outlines
  6. Inform students via syllabi concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements
  7. Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and personnel records, and submits them according to published deadlines
  8. Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and promptly returns them to students
  9. Post and maintain required office hours in accordance with the prevailing policy
  10. Participate in faculty meetings on curriculum, teaching-learning techniques and teaching materials.
  11. Participate in the planning of the graduation ceremony. 
  12. The instructor is also responsible for participating in part time staff meetings and college orientations at the beginning of each semester. 
  13. Emphasis on student centered and service learning to develop such workplace skills as team building, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  14.  Experience fostering relationships with current and prospective community partners including members of the Advisory Board and employers.
  15. Demonstrated expertise in cutting edge and new technologies with respect to Dental Assisting.
  16.  Interest in computer-enhanced instruction and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit program.
  17.  Teaching experience at the community college level
  18.  Leadership experience in developing and revising Dental Assisting curriculum
  19.  Experience in online course development and/or teaching.
 

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of any Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university AND four (4) years of experience in the Dental Assisting field.

Possession of any Associate Degree from an accredited college AND six (6) years of experience in the Dental Assisting field.

Required, Special Licenses, Certificates:
 1. Current valid California License as Registered Dental Assistant, Registered Dental Hygienist  or Dentist.
 2. Current valid California Radiation Safety License.
 3. Current valid Coronal Polish License
 4. Current valid Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate
 5. Certified Dental Assisting Certificate
 6. Current CPR/BLS certificate

SALARY:
Lecture Rate:  $65.74 to $86.44 per hour depending upon education and experience
Lab Rate: $57.27 to $75.26 per hour depending upon education and experience
Activity Rate: $37.13 to $50.62 per hour depending upon education and experience
