The Dental Programs Department offers comprehensive undergraduate educational opportunities with a Dental Assisting Certificate and Associate in Science degrees in Dental Hygiene (both bridge and traditional). Additionally, SF has its own on-site Dental Clinic with several services offered, such as dental radiographs, oral examinations/dental hygiene/treatment planning, dental prophylaxis, deep cleaning, topical fluoride treatments, sealants, oral hygiene instructions, fillings, crowns, and simple extractions.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor, Dental Programs will provide didactic, lab, and/or clinical nursing instruction for students enrolled in the Dental Assisting Certificate program or associate in science degree in Dental Hygiene. This position is a 9-month faculty position with a contractual obligation to teach 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring. Summer instructional opportunities may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need. Additionally, the Assistant Professor must have the flexibility to teach courses during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats.

This position’s starting salary is $48,360 annually. Any salary amount above this is commensurate upon an individual’s qualifications. Additionally, Dental faculty may receive a stipend of $9,200 as market adjustment and be paid semi-monthly in equal increments during the contract period. As a full-time employee, the incumbent will incur many college paid benefits, including health and life insurance, retirement, sick and vacation leave, 20+ paid holidays, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.

  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.

  • Collaborates with the Director, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content.

  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.

  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.

  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.

  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.

  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.

  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.

  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students’ progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.

  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.

  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Dental Assisting: Dental assisting faculty must have background in and current knowledge of dental assisting Faculty providing didactic instruction must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree. Laboratory, preclinical and clinical faculty must hold any current dental assisting credentials required by the state in addition to a Dental Assisting National Board “Certified Dental Assistant” credential. Faculty members teaching additional or expanded dental assisting functions should be credentialed appropriately in those functions as required by the state. Appropriately prepared licensed dental hygiene faculty are eligible to teach these functions to dental assisting students without obtaining additional certification.

  • Dental Hygiene: Full-time and part-time faculty of a dental hygiene program must possess a baccalaureate or higher degree. All part-time clinical and dental science laboratory faculty appointed prior to July 1, 2022, are exempt from the degree requirement. Faculty who are dental hygienists must be graduates of dental hygiene programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dentists and dental hygienists who supervise students' clinical procedures must possess qualifications which comply with the state dental or dental hygiene practice act. Individuals who teach and supervise dental hygiene students in clinical enrichment experiences should have qualifications comparable to faculty who teach in the dental hygiene clinic and are familiar with the program's objectives, content, instructional methods and evaluation procedures.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Clinical faculty are required to obtain a PPD screening prior to entering clinic, as well as an annual flu vaccination.

Preferred:  Two (2) to five (5) years of clinical, dental assisting or dental hygiene experience. Relevant teaching experience within a community college setting.
