Essential Job Duties
- Oversee daily library operations, including circulation, collection development, and maintenance.
- Provide information services such as reference support, research assistance, and technology training for students, faculty, and the public.
- Facilitate access to print and digital collections, technology lending, and reserve materials.
- Supervise and develop student workers and volunteers, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
- Plan and deliver outcome-based programs and events aligned with the Cultural Center’s mission, vision, and values.
- Curate and acquire collections with a focus on Black, African, and African American history, literature, and scholarship.
- Maintain and organize library systems, databases, and archives in a networked environment.
- Serve as a primary contact for the library and engage with a varied patron base, including students, researchers, and vendors.
- Create and maintain records for information storage and retrieval.
- Conduct basic research and assist with queries, drawing from both physical and digital resources.
- Support operations and services through the preparation, evaluation, and organization of collections.
- Develop outreach initiatives to highlight special collections and relevant resources.
- Proficiency in library technologies and systems for organizing and retrieving information.
- Familiarity with the histories, narratives, and cultures of the African diaspora.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Experience in program development and the supervision of student workers.

Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience in general reference and public information work
- Ability to function as a self-directed leader in a growing department of a larger office
- Ability to determine departmental needs and submit a process to fulfill those needs in a timely manner
- Proficiency with computers and software
- Proficiency providing reference services using print and electronic sources
- Basic cataloging ability and experience in collection development
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with sensitivities to providing excellent customer services for a varied environment and student body
- Program development and implementation experience
- Presentation and/or facilitation experience
- Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of library work-study students and other personnel
Preferred Qualifications
Required License or Certification
Valid NC Driver's License required
