Basic Function
Representative Duties
b. Sets up and takes down equipment and materials for various science labs. E
c. Prepares and maintains discipline-specific materials in classrooms and instructional laboratories. E
d. Takes and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; updates and maintains stockroom inventory records for a variety of lab materials and supplies. E
e. Maintains and makes minor repairs to discipline-specific classroom and laboratory equipment. E
f. Prepares solutions and assembles materials needed for laboratory experiments. E
g. Maintains technology, including computers, and installs software relevant to the disciplines. E
h. Collaborates with instructors to; plan, organize, prepare, and conduct lab experiments; assists with curriculum, lab experiments, and program plans, as needed. E
i. Maintains records of requisitions and purchases on behalf of the Physics, Engineering, Geology, Astronomy and Geography Departments.
j. Coordinates with Facilities, Information Technology (IT), Audio Visual or other District or college departments to arrange for and repair broken or malfunctioning equipment or facilities. E
k. Contacts and meets with vendors to obtain material and/or service quotes. E
l. Coordinates with Instructional Division Secretary regarding requisitions, purchase orders (POs), invoices, and accounts payable; coordinates orders and deliveries with warehouse personnel. E
m. Coordinates biohazardous waste disposal from classroom for vendor pick up; ensures lab stockroom is up to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) regulations. E
n. Supervises, trains and provides work direction to student assistants, student workers, and/or short-term, temporary staff, as assigned. E
o. Works with Financial Aid Department to identify, interview, and hire student workers from the Federal Work Study and/or District Work Study Programs; trains, schedules, supervises, and provides work direction and daily assignments to student workers; reviews submitted timesheets against hours worked; verifies budget, and submits to appropriate personnel for approval. E
p. Assists faculty, staff, and students with a variety of requests related to the area of assignment, as directed by the dean. E
q. Proctor labs, lab exams, and examinations, as needed. E
r. Assists with evening and weekend sections of biology and chemistry labs in coordination with those lab technicians. E

Education and Experience
Or,
Bachelor’s Degree in physical science, engineering or related field; AND One to two (1-2) years of work experience in the field or discipline related to the assignment;
Or,
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Foreign Degrees
Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
Working Conditions
• While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus.
• Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Employees work in a classroom or Instructional laboratory environment; subject to exposure to potentially hazardous materials and fumes from chemicals related to caustic and corrosive chemicals.
Employees work under typical office conditions, with constant interruptions, and the noise level may vary depending on activities of the office.
