JOB SUMMARY

This position is primarily responsible for conducting activities related to outreach, communication management, and general facilitation of the multi-step intake process for new/prospective students (or their advocates) seeking to establish accommodations through the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS). This position also provides generalized administrative assistance to the DSS office as needed. It reports to the Director of Disability Support Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitors and responds to inquiries, referrals, voicemails and emails from new/prospective students, parents or other parties in facilitation of the intake process for accommodations (up to the point of a scheduled intake meeting with DSS staff.)
  • Assists new or current students/parents with onboarding to and use of Accommodate system (including submitting Semester Requests for current/returning students.)
  • Creates or facilitates communication with current DSS students for recurring check-in meetings with DSS staff and important dates/reminders to promote student engagement in clubs or campus organizations, attendance to special events or campus activities, and use of campus resources. Promotes and facilitates DSS student engagement and/or use of campus resources for retention, success and wellness.
  • Provides administrative support and general organizational support to DSS staff including student record and file-keeping, researching and developing content for programming or presentations, updating fliers/forms/related materials, and assisting with DSS staff committee work or other projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associate Degree and two years’ related experience.
  • Working knowledge of higher education and its policies and processes.
  • Specialized knowledge of post-secondary disability support and related topics.
  • Effective communication skills in collaborating with college staff, students, and external advocates.
  • Competency with MS Office Suite/MS Teams.
  • Ability to use small office equipment (copy machines, telephones).
  • Ability to use computers for data entry and/or word processing.
  • Ability to perform standard administrative support tasks including typing, scanning, filing, etc.
  • Must be positive, cooperative, and supportive.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree and one year related experience
  • Competency with Higher Ed software (i.e. Starfish, Accommodate etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is normally light work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Periodically, it requires standing for longer periods of time during presentations or fairs. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
  • Visual Acuity – Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
  • Mental Acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
  • Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
  • Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

College campus, area high schools and related offsite locations. Direct contact with diverse students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common and shared areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Position includes possible periodic exposure to sensitive or troubling topics (suicide, substance abuse, mental health, depression, medical conditions, etc.) related to its specialized work in the area of disability support. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and College policies. This is a part-time position <29 hours per week.
