Job Description

Jacobs Medical Center 5FG is a 24 bed Medical Oncology/Palliative Care Progressive Care Unit. Several disciplines collaborate to provide prescribed oncology care including chemotherapy and biotherapy. The unit is also designated as the overflow for Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The nursing team is dedicated to care for patients who need aggressive symptom management. They work closely with a multi-disciplinary palliative care team, implementing a holistic approach to physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual well-being.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
RN License issued by the State of California.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Commitment to get Chemotherapy Certification within 1 year from hire date.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years inpatient RN experience in IMU/PCU or ICU to include palliative care experience. (If insufficient applicant pool, department may consider RNs with two (2) years of acute care experience to include Oncology, IMU, PCU or Telemetry.)
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions andevaluate results.
Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff,physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
BSN.
Palliative care RN experience.
Prior experience with Chemotherapy.
Certified in PCCN, OCN or Palliative Care.
Current Chemotherapy Certification.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Per diem shift requirement is an average of 1 shift per week per 4-week schedule. Must be available 1 weekend shift per 4-week schedule and a minimum of 1 holiday. This is subject to change based on individual department needs.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $170,485 - $170,485 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $81.65 - $81.65
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
