Automation Associate
Job Description
AUTOMATION ASSOCIATE, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research (KI)-High Throughput Sciences (HTS), to assume a pivotal position operating automated instrumentation. Will collaborate with world-renowned scientists and engineers to identify automated solutions to accelerate discoveries and shape the future of oncology. Responsibilities include conducting project-specific automated workflows; assessing equipment needs and scheduling the maintenance and repair of equipment; training researchers to use automation and data; maintaining vendor relationships and service contracts; coordinating HTS campaign scheduling; implementing and maintaining analysis software; partnering with IT for efficient data management; evaluating new software/hardware; monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing other sustaining activities; participating in conferences to evaluate new trends in automation; ensuring safety standards and procedures are followed; and performing other duties as needed. The work may involve exerting light-to-medium force to move objects weighing 10 to 20 lbs., handling clinical samples, and addressing emergencies.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in bioengineering/computer science/chemistry/biology/related discipline; at least two years of lab automation, screening, or related experience (may include experience gained as undergraduate); experience with automation software (e.g., Freedom Evoware, Cellario); attention to detail; ability to teach others; excellent organizational, time management, documentation, and communication skills; ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment; and discretion and judgment with confidential information. PREFERRED: experience with high-content screening and compound or genetic library management; experience with biological data analysis; working knowledge of common programming and data science tools such as Python, JavaScript, C#, R, Azure/GCP/AWS, and Docker.
