CITY OF NORWOOD ENTRY-LEVEL POLICE OFFICER TEST ANNOUNCEMENT
Top pay of $89,259.33 at 5 years
Pay commensurate with experience up to top pay
Medical, Dental and Vision insurance with HSA
Yearly Uniform allowance of $1,250.00
Tuition Reimbursement up to 100%
Holiday, Vacation, Comp, and Court time banks
Special assignments: Criminal Investigation Section,
Drug Unit, DEA, SRO, SWAT, Bike Patrol, FTO

The Norwood Civil Service Commission is accepting entry-level applications for the position of POLICE OFFICER. Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, at the time of appointment. No person shall be eligible for an original appointment on or after their thirty-fifth (35th) birthday, (unless currently commissioned as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Ohio), at the time of appointment. Applicants must receive a minimum passing grade of seventy percent (70%) on the written test prior to receiving any additional credit. Candidates passing the written test shall be required to complete an agility test, background history packet/investigation, Computer Voice Stress Analyzer examination, interview panel, physical examination and psychological testing. Applicants must pass all phases.
DATE OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION: MONDAY AUGUST 5, 2024 AT 6 PM TO BE HELD IN THE NORWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER - 1810 COURTLAND AVENUE, NORWOOD, OH 45212
DATE OF AGILITY TESTING: SUNDAY AUGUST 11, AT 8 AM AT SHEA STADIUM - 2603 HARRIS AVENUE NORWOOD, OH 45212. Current Ohio commissioned officers and applicants who hold active OPOTA certifications are exempt from the physical agility testing phase.
A valid Driver’s license is required at both examinations.
Additional credit shall be administered for the following:
Military Credit (must be a resident of the State of Ohio at the time of the test) – 20%
Four-year college degree – 10%
Two-year college degree – 5%
State of Ohio Certified Police Officer (Certification must be current) – 10%
Police Officer, other than the State of Ohio – 5%
Four-year college degree – 10%
Two-year college degree – 5%
State of Ohio Certified Police Officer (Certification must be current) – 10%
Police Officer, other than the State of Ohio – 5%
TOTAL MAXIMUM CREDIT PERMITTED – 20%
A copy of the OPOTA Certificate must be submitted with the application. Proof of discharge under honorable conditions must be submitted with the application to receive military credit. Proof of all other additional credit must be submitted at the time of the examination. Applicants will be advised if they passed the written examination prior to the agility test and all other phases of the testing process will be scheduled at a later date.
Deadline for filing applications is Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at 12 Noon
