Adjunct Aeronautics Instructor (AFAB)

Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Teaching Assignment in the Career Technical Educational Division for the Aircraft Fabrication & Assembly Technician Program (AFAB).

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Instructors may be assigned a combination of daytime, evening, and/or Saturday classes, as the college is dedicated to the educational success of a diverse student body with diverse needs.
  • Coordinating and working closely with industry partners in support of the program.
  • Travel between District locations is also expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Applicant must meet one of the following)
 

  • Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in California Community: Any Bachelor's degree AND two years professional experience OR any Associate's degree AND six years of professional experience. (Academic Affairs Division, California Community Colleges) OR equivalency:
  • Antelope Valley College Equivalency: (Approved:  November 2, 2017)
    Area:  Aircraft Mechanics - Aircraft Fabrication & Assembly (AFAB)
  • College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; or, college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an Associate's degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline, OR
  • Eight years of experience in the aircraft fabrication occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as a supervisor, instructor, trainer, or owner of an aircraft maintenance facility with emphasis in aircraft assembly or prototype construction.
AND sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in academic subject area related to the assignment.
  • Three years full time, postsecondary teaching experience in Career Technical
  • Education (preferably at a community college) OR 10 years of recent experience in training programs as related to the aviation/aerospace manufacturing/maintenance industries.
  • Industry certifications related to the assignment.
  • Possession of FAA certification(s) A&P, IA.
  • Ability and/or evidence related to developing training aids (hydraulic/pneumatic/aircraft systems) or industry awards related to improvements in quality and production with regards to improving technician performance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Evidence of a commitment to teaching/learning and vision of a learning-centered institution and community.
  • An understanding of how technology can support learning and a record of support for technological advancements.
  • Evidence of successful grant writing or scholarship awards.
