General Description
We are seeking a Sr. Clinical Nurse who will work under the Nurse Manager for Medical Oncology at Green Spring Station. The Sr. Clinical Nurse is a member of the multidisciplinary team that specializes in oncology nursing. They will be responsible for the coordination of care for the oncology patient from diagnosis to survivorship including end-of-life issues. They will work with the multidisciplinary team to plan and implement a plan of care for the oncology patient through clinical resources, being a patient advocate and an educator for the patient and family. The Sr. Clinical Nurse reports to nursing leadership.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates clinical care of the patient with the other team members including physicians, social work, care management, and nursing.
- Establishes a plan of care in conjunction with the physician and will include other disciplines as needed.
- Will coordinate care across multiple departments including testing, education, and the day-to-day care of the patient.
- Provide direct patient care based on the nursing process while mentoring others to promote quality and excellence of care.
- Serves as a clinical expert resource for patients and their families.
- Serves as a resource for other disciplines regarding patient issues in the day-to-day plan of care.
- Ensures a high level of nursing care for the patient.
- Establishes and implements policies and procedures for the specialty practice and patients.
- Serves as a liaison between the patient /family and the multidisciplinary team.
- Accountable for own decisions regarding patient care.
- Analyzes patient care data to deliver and evaluate care.
- Triage and review incoming phone messages, Epic InBasket and communications with doctors and/or patients as needed.
- Knowledge of current health care environment.
- Has direct patient care 85% of scheduled hours.
Minimum Qualifications
- Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Marylandor state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or relateddiscipline required.
- Require minimum of two years of related nursing experience, withadditional experience preferred.
- Additional experience may substitute for bachelor's degree and related master's degree may be considered in lieu of experience

- Working knowledge of Epic and Epic’s Beacon ordering system.
- Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding patient care.
- Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.
- Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.
- CPR and AED certified.
- Ability to properly conduct general physiologic monitoring and patient care equipment such as an EKG.
- Accountable authority for decisions regarding patient care.
Development
- Serves as a clinical expert resource to leadership and staff in the development and implementation of nursing standards consistent with the established model of care.
- Maintains leadership competency by participation in continuing education, professional organizations, and other related activities.
- Works collaboratively with clinical leadership and supportive resources to ensure that patients have access to comprehensive interdisciplinary patient and family educational programs throughout their care trajectory.
