This position can be fully remote, in-person, or a hybrid (remote and in-person). The on-site location is 9500 Gilman Drive, San Diego, CA 92093.

DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all. The School focuses on health, diversity, inclusion, and social equity in everythingwe do. We believe this starts in the workplace, where we actively strive to ensure a sense of belonging for everyone and honor the idea that through our differences, we are better together. In working to fulfill that vision, we are comprised of more than 125 primary appointed facultyand academics, 200 staff members, and 25 secondary appointed faculty and provide mentorship and instruction to 750+ BSPH undergraduate major students and 225+ postgraduate students across six degree programs as well as a clinical residency. We conduct research and instruction in public health disciplines such as Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Climate & Environmental Health, Community Health Services & Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Behavior, Health Equity & Justice, Health Policy, Public Mental Health & Substance Use, and Technology & Precision Health, totaling ~$255M in grants and contracts and housing five research servicecores. We engage in research and teaching collaborations across the University and the community at-large. Partnerships with the community and with health agencies are fundamental to the School.

Under general supervision of the Assistant Business Officer and direct mentorship of the Senior Financial Analyst, serves as a key member of the Business Office and provides essential support to the fiscal core team, academics, staff, and students.

Uses professional financial services concepts. Applies organization policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complicated issues. Works on financial services problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Processes and supports financial transactions in the general ledger, UCPath labor ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, procurement, travel, events, recharge billing, cashiering, foreign wire payments, sub award invoices, resource transfers, cost adjustment journals, and default account activity.

Functions as a resource to support staff in researching and resolving transaction discrepancies, default account activity, customer service and vendor concerns. Submits new and amendment outgoing sub award packages through Kuali Research (KR).

Serves as primary Departmental Security Administrator (DSA) for systems access. Supports internal control requirements and compliance for the School of Public Health. Responsibilities include database management and maintenance as well as performing ad-hoc financial reports and analysis.

This position has recently been accreted by Teamsters CX union, and will be a part of that union moving forward.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience in financial services.

  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.

  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.

  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

  • Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff.

  • Experience processing financial transactions such as transfers/journals and invoices.

  • Database management experience.
