Research Support Associate 2
Job Description
RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 2, Center for International Studies (CIS) - Security Studies Program (SSP), to be responsible for supporting research into war plans including finding secondary sources detailing the formation of specific war plans, extracting information necessary for the dataset, and making strategic decisions to assess how the war plans should be categorized; assist in overseeing the contributions from a small team of undergraduate assistants (no more than 3), providing quality control. The goal of this project is the development of a dataset of initial war plans used by all the belligerents in interstate wars since 1914. There is surprisingly little systematic knowledge about war plans or how well they fare in war, beyond the adage “no plan survives contact with the enemy.” The creation of this dataset will provide some groundwork descriptive analysis to understand war time strategies, which can have important policy implications.
