Housed in the Adult Education Department at Santa Fe College’s NW campus, Project SAINT stands for Student Access and Inclusion Together and is an official Florida Post-Secondary Comprehensive Transition Program (FPCTP), recognized by the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities

The Adult Education Career Specialist is a part-time, grant-funded position devoted to fostering and supporting volunteer and paid job opportunities for SAINT students, as well as assisting in the development of vocational skills for students with mild intellectual disabilities/unique abilities. These opportunities will provide the skills and experience necessary for career development. This position will have a 20-hour a week commitment.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Meets individually with job seeking SAINT students and devises a job seeking plan and virtual portfolio for each student.

  • Assists SAINT students in developing their portfolios to include resumes, awards, certifications, and applications.

  • Maintains and develops professional relationships with internal and external constituents for internships, volunteer and paid job opportunities.

  • Establishes and maintains internships, volunteer and paid job opportunities through initial job coaching and ongoing communication with employers.

  • Documents all program activities to include student placement in internships, volunteering opportunities, and jobs and documenting job skills; analyzes the data to prepare reports and present findings to the Coordinator.

  • Develops and facilitates monthly student workshops on resume writing, interview skills, job placements, and other related opportunities.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Reports to: Coordinator, Project SAINT

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: An associate's degree in areas of education, rehabilitation, special education, counseling or a related field with two (2) years of experience working with populations similar to Project SAINT's.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: A bachelor's or master's degree in areas of education, rehabilitation, special education, counseling or a related field with work experience in career and job placement services.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.

  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.

  • Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs.

  • Results Orientation – proven ability to set and exceed established targets.

  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
