Job Description
This is a unique opportunity to join Syracuse University’s highly motivated team of talented and experienced HR professionals in a strategic and operational capacity. As a member of the Labor and Employee Relations Team, you will work in partnership with the senior leaders, key stakeholders, and HR colleagues to shape, develop, and deliver HR plans and strategies in line with the needs and priorities of the organization. You will operate as your assigned academic and/or administrative unit’s HR expert providing high-level people management support and development in an inclusive and student centered environment.

The role requires someone conscientious, organized, and fully cognizant of how to provide counsel to the most senior leaders in a complex and challenging environment across the full range of employee matters. The most qualified candidates will be conversant in the most up-to-date best practices in employee relations, organizational development, performance management, recruitment, retention, staff development for employees, supervisors, and faculty, workforce planning, benefits, and compensation.

Education and Experience
  • A four-year degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related fields is preferred.
  • Degree requirements may be substituted for an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience. SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certification is desired.
  • Preferred candidates may have an advanced degree and experience working with faculty, research staff, and higher education.

  • Preferred candidates for this role will have four (4) plus years of progressive HR experience demonstrating HR expertise, leadership, communication, relationship management, and ethical practice.
  • Ability to think critically to identify and implement effective solutions.
  • High aptitude in emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Effective at building and maintaining strong, positive, professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated success working in an inclusive, multicultural, work environment.
  • Must be able to work independently, proactively, focused and self-motivated.
  • Excellent judgment, customer service, diplomacy, and well-honed interpersonal skills.
  • Superlative written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters with tact and discretion

Responsibilities
  • Effectively manages and resolves complex employee relations issues; provides coaching to employees; conducts effective, thorough investigations.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with leaders and employees to provide guidance and counsel on a variety of HR and business-related issues.
  • Provides HR support to leadership in developing and implementing strategic and tactical initiatives that drive and support short and long-term business goals.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation; administers training and education sessions to management and staff; provides updates on changes in employment and labor laws that impact the workplace.
  • Partners with Sr. HR Business Partners to implement university-wide HR and compliance initiatives.
