Scope of Position
This position will work under the direction of the Executive Director (ED) to coordinate and implement the organization’s programs. Current programs/services include:
1. UpLift coordinates resource "pop-up" events working with businesses, faith communities, schools, community centers, social service organizations and other community resources to bring services and meals to underserved communities throughout Whatcom County, especially rural areas
2. Prevention and Diversion Program coordinates financial support to families and youth at risk of homelessness chosen by the Whatcom County and Bellingham School District Family Liaisons
3. Winter Coat Drive and Project Warm Up coordinates volunteers, businesses and nonprofits to provide warm coats, hats, gloves, etc. to folks in Whatcom County in October
4. Holiday Joy coordinates volunteers, businesses and other donors who provide seasonal gifts to families and children, including some basic needs in December
5. CAST – Coffee and Sandwiches Together assists Advisory Board in recruiting and screening volunteers who provide meals and community Monday - Friday at the Arch of Healing and Reconciliation in downtown Bellingham to unhoused and other food insecure folks
6. Sharing our Housing coordinates the support to families and individuals in our homes to who are in need of longer term transitional housing through our partner Opportunity Council, coordinating volunteers to provide meals, food, Thanksgiving baskets and other resources the families and individuals need
The Program Coordinator responsibilities include all aspects of coordination: project planning, SOP development/documentation, scheduling, securing sites and vendors, scheduling volunteers, marketing, and, when needed, assist with fundraising to support the programs. This role works closely with volunteer leadership who partner in the implementation of the organization’s programs as well.
As a Volunteer Coordinator, this position similarly will develop a comprehensive volunteer program that includes recruitment, screening, orientation, training, and overall documentation of volunteer efforts. This not only includes supporting the programs, but other services and needs of the organization (i.e. Board committee work, etc).
As an employee of Interfaith Coalition, this position will assist with fundraising and relationship development on behalf of the organization as needed. Supporting other staff members in ongoing programs is also essential.
A Successful Program and Volunteer Coordinator’s Abilities
A successful Program and Volunteer Coordinator will work seamlessly with the Executive Director but are also able to work independently, have high-level organizational skills, manage multiple relationships with multiple parties involved including faith communities, social service agencies, businesses, government, educational institutions and when directed by the Executive Director, funders. They support a collaborative staff culture with a focus on honoring diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility values. They also have a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to achieve organizational objectives.
Skills needed:
- Proficiency in office related software – Office products, Google Suite, CRM database, etc
- Highly organized
- Ability to build programs and implement projects from the ground up
- Ability to document work effectively
- Ability to work (and thrive) in a diverse, challenging environment.
Requirements:
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in program and volunteer coordination required, with previous experience in a nonprofit setting strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, Nonprofit Management, Communication, Business or Healthcare Administration required; comparable work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. The employee is often required to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arm. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus sufficient to operate computer systems. Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
