Job Summary

The Executive Director of Alamance ElderCare is responsible for creating goals, developing budgets, providing fundraising leadership, directing the professional staff, and evaluating and revising programming and services. Alamance ElderCare’s key services include information and referral for seniors and their caregivers, client assessment and care coordination, case assistance, care management and family caregiver programs and support. Appointed by the Board of Directors, the Executive Director collaborates with the Board in developing and implementing strategic plans and objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for the delegating of grant administration and leading the staff in relationship building and public relations with individuals, groups, businesses, the faith community, the media, and volunteers on the diverse needs of our aging population and their caregivers. The position requires well-developed communication skills and leadership skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of clients, families, staff, medical personnel, community leaders, and funding entities, in addition to various local/regional/state organizations and other local service providers.

Essential Job Functions

Organizational Leadership and Board Relations

  • Demonstrate leadership and professional qualities consistently.
  • Brainstorm creative ideas to encourage utilization and growth of services.
  • Coordinate multiple responsibilities and fosters collaboration and cooperation in a wide variety of settings.
  • Effectively communicate Alamance ElderCare’s mission and goals to other counties and organizations.
  • Communicate vision, needs, and goals to potential contributors, funders, and volunteers to grow financial, in-kind, and volunteer resources.
  • Advocate for the development of new services/resources to address unmet needs of clients and the community.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure that the organization is fulfilling its mission, and work with the Board to develop and implement policies and procedures that support organizational goals.

Program Development/Management

  • Establish annual goals for all programs and successfully implement them through delegation and direction to staff members.
  • Manage program operations, working with staff and volunteers to ensure that programs are implemented effectively and in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Develop and implement a strategic program planning process to identify programs that align with the organization’s mission and goals, in collaboration with staff and Board.
  • Manage reporting processes for PTRC Area Agency in Aging, NC Division of Aging, and other funders and agencies.
  • Executive Director must attend the Alamance County Senior Services Planning Committee monthly meetings.
  • Approve CAP/DA assessments of each individual in the CAP/DA program, as well as approve case plan services for clients developed by the CAP/DA Case Managers.

Financial Management

  • Oversee the organization’s financial management and develop and oversee the annual budget, in accordance with Alamance ElderCare’s financial policies.
  • Ensure that financial reports are accurate and provided to the Board of Directors in a timely fashion.
  • Review budgets regularly with accountant and program staff; proactively communicate needs to adjust the budget with the Executive Committee.
  • Review and submit information into the state reimbursement system for grants and Medicaid billing.
  • Complete payroll, monitoring budgetary restrictions, HSA, IRA, and tax withholding.

Personnel Management

  • Effectively manage staff by providing guidance, motivation and support to help them succeed in their roles.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff members, both in the form of ongoing coaching and formal performance evaluations, to ensure they are meeting performance expectations.
  • Direct staff in the development of reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Orient staff to education standards and regulations; coordinate staff training.
  • Recruit, identify, and hire qualified and effective staff for any vacancies.
  • Recruit, engage, and track volunteers to expand the reach of programming.

Partnerships and Public Engagement

  • Act as Alamance ElderCare’s spokesperson and represent the organization at public events and speaking engagements.
  • Expand community awareness of the organization by effectively communicating the mission and needs of Alamance ElderCare and the needs of older adults to a diverse group of individuals, organizations, businesses, medical personnel, community leaders, and potential funders in multiple formats and media.
  • Participate in statewide initiatives that involve elderly citizens, keeping the community leaders apprised of changes.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to ensure appropriate referral of clients and their families to Alamance ElderCare and other community resources.

Fundraising and Development

  • Effectively secure financial support for Alamance ElderCare and administer financial resources to meet budgetary guidelines.
  • Develop an effective fundraising system that includes relationship-building cultivation and multi-year pledge opportunities.
  • Research, develop, and complete annual grant applications for the Home & Community Care Block Grant and Family Caregiver Support Programs through our Area Agency on Aging, as well as other appropriate grant applications and proposals.
  • Research potential for other philanthropic sources of funding such as planned giving opportunities or other grants that support the elderly.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to establish fundraising priorities and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement donor stewardship plans to maintain strong relationships with donors and secure ongoing support, including regular communication, recognition, and engagement opportunities.
  • Ensure that Alamance ElderCare raises the necessary funds to meet its annual goals and expand its mission reach and impact, monitoring progress toward fundraising goals and making adjustments as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related health or human service discipline required.
  • Three (3) or more years of directly related experience in the health or medical field directly related to homecare, long-term care, or personal care with one (1) of those years to have been in case management and successfully pass a background check that includes health care registry.
  • A minimum of five or more years of progressive leadership or program-related experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years in working with the aging population.
  • A minimum of five or more years of relevant program-related leadership is required. Interdisciplinary team leadership experience is preferred along with significant experience developing relationships, networks of support, and building consensus among a wide range of individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related health or human service discipline preferred.
  • Extensive experience with the Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults Program and experience using the eCAP data system.
  • Prefer a minimum of 5-7 years of supervisory / management experience, preferably in aging populations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to effectively interact, educate, collaborate with and work on behalf of a diverse Board of Directors in developing and implementing overall agency strategic development within programmatic, financial and staff development areas.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational management skills with ability to lead diverse staff, volunteers and community groups in achieving client and departmental goals. Ability to foster collaboration and cooperation working with a diverse group of clients, families, staff, medical personnel, community leaders, funding entities, in addition to various local/regional/state organizations and other local service providers.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with the NC Aging Resource Management System (ARMS).
  • Demonstrates the ability to build relationships with varying types of populations and groups.
  • Ability to seek out resources to resolve legal issues concerning human resources, management of Change, contractual services, etc.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with governmental leaders.
  • Excellent public presentation skills, critical thinking, and planning skills. Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, discretion, and positive attitude.
  • Excellent grant research, grant writing, and grant administration skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of issues associated with aging, the elderly, and their caregivers, the service delivery system, third-party payer resources, and community resources, especially in Alamance County.
  • Information management skills including research, analysis, assessment, and documentation, all of which are components of a system for information and referral for the elderly, including ongoing needs assessment of the elderly and their caregivers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
